How did you get started in Interior Design? What is your background?
I have dreamed of being an interior designer since I was in 8thgrade. My grandmothers both had an eye for design, one in fashion and the other a designer herself. I also spent countless hours walking through houses with my father, a real estate broker in NC. I was lucky enough to attend North Carolina State University’s College of Textiles where I fell in love with fabrics and learned about their unique properties. After graduating I moved to Atlanta and worked with a local designer for five years before starting A. Wooten Interiors in 2016.

What do you love most about including original art in your designs?
Original art makes a space unique and interesting. It allows us to pull a room together and introduce a specific color palette to make the final design really sing. I always tell my clients that you have to love the art in your home, don’t just choose something to fill the space. Art is so personal and puts a unique stamp on a space.

Dream project?
A coastal home! I’m dying to design a beach house with a dreamy view. I have grown up going to the beach all my life, and I love a coastal cottage. There are just some textiles, art and accessories that belong at the beach!

What are your three “must haves” in order to create an inviting space?
First, I try to incorporate a mix of fabrics that will bring warmth and texture to a space. Second, I always take special care of incorporating lighting into a room. Lamps aren’t just for style! They are so important in creating an environment that is inviting and engaging. I always prefer the ambiance of lamp light over can or overhead lighting. Finally, incorporating pieces that are unique can really complete a project. Pieces that tell a story really connect my design work and the homeowner’s wishes to create a dream space.
