Alexis Warren Designs, founded by Alexis Warren in 2020, is a full service design firm located in Charlotte, North Carolina. The firm focuses on creating curated and livable spaces that are unique to each client’s needs. Alexis’ love for design goes back to childhood, where she found her passion for color and pattern through watching her mother and grandmother, both artists, create beautiful paintings.

Her bold use of color and pattern throughout her designs has become her signature style and is what she most recognized for. Alexis focuses on her client’s lifestyle and needs in order to create a design that is functional, yet beautiful. She draws inspiration from her sourcing trips, client’s homes, vintage pieces, and of course travel! It is important to her that each design is unique and no two clients have the same room. This is created from sourcing special one-of-a-kind pieces, finding fabrics from small design houses, and working with her team of extremely talented custom sub-contractors!

Alexis was born and raised in North Carolina, and has been local to Charlotte for most of her life. She attended North Carolina State University in Raleigh and quickly moved back to Charlotte with her husband, Bobby Warren. She and her husband live in Myers Park and spend their time with family, friends, and their Goldendoodle Maggie!

What inspires you? Who are your current “crushes” or favorite instagram accounts to follow for inspiration?

My saved folder on instagram is full of inspiration from UK designers and brands. The British aesthetic is so homey and full of character without feeling stuffy. I think in another life I was the baroness of an English countryside home.

What do you love most about including original art in your designs?

Working in an art gallery, I learned every piece of art should start a conversation instead of blending into the background of a room. Art creates a layer of personality versus just picking a piece of art for color.I love an unexpected piece, like something modern in a traditional home or a piece of your child’s art framed like something that would be on display in a gallery.

Current design trend that you think should take an early retirement?

Open concept homes - there are no walls for art! Plus, it’s hard to style wallpaper or paint in a house with no breaks between the rooms. I just love a wall.

What are your three "must haves" in order to create an inviting space?

Antiques, original art, and ambient light. The perfect recipe for a warm and inviting room. Antiques bring stories (and sometimes ghosts, if you’ve been in my house, you know) to a room that could never be written in a big box store. Overhead lights are a no for me, they are for aesthetic purposes only - ambient light creates a gentle and warm glow that makes everyone feel at home.

What are some design upgrades you recommend to clients that won't break the bank?

Hardware is an easy upgrade if you know the right places to look. I have so many clients with pieces of furniture they don’t want to part with, but are ready for a mini facelift. I source new drawer pulls and knobs from Etsy that gives your college dresser new life.

Lampshades are another detail that can either fall into the background or make a statement. Get rid of your boring factory white lampshades and add some color and pattern. If you have remnants of fabric, you can find someone to create a lampshade for you and tie a room together.
