The Old Hunt Club

I'm Elizabeth Carson Blair, founder of The Old Hunt Club!My designs are rooted in nostalgia and quiet sophistication that exude comfort and approachability.I grew up appreciating how to make the best out of what you have, a sentiment and practice that still resonates with me. The most unique pieces in my home were collected, inherited, or found in the corner of secondhand stores. I believe that old and once forgotten things aid in creating rooms evocative of the life we live, and it’s what I love to do at The Old Hunt Club!
OHC celebrates the time-honored tradition of “hunting” for what your home is missing! I offer interior design services ranging from sourcing objects to fill a bookshelf to thoughtfully designing each space in your home. Accessorizing services are also available to interior designers to help with the finishing touches on a project.I am passionate about understanding your needs, the items you hold dear, and how I can enrich your home with both joyful and purposeful design.

How did you get started in Interior Design? What is your background?
I began my career in Interior Design working for Charlotte Lucas Interior Design. Charlotte graciously offered me an hourly job out of college. My first office was her storage room, and things progressed year after year for almost 10 years. She and all my former colleagues have been wonderful mentors and fostered my love for Interior Design.

Favorite thing about living in the south?
I adore Southerners' appreciation for hosting and gathering at home. Most of the hosting my mother did growing up was centered around meal times and I find myself still gravitating towards that. Come for brunch, before dinner drinks, dinner, and after dinner drinks! Whatever the occasion at my house there is usually food involved and an excessive use of china. I have an appreciation for heirloom serving pieces, beautiful presentations, sterling silver, crockery and all things in between that accompany throwing a party. I’ll never forget all the many hosting tips my mother has passed down or when she told me I should always have tea bags and corn meal stocked in my pantry. Southern hospitality truly can’t be beat.

What are your three "must haves" in order to create an inviting space?
Old Brown furniture - I just always gravitate towards old brown furniture. I don't care if it's worn, what decade it's from, or if it is scratched and nicked. Truth be told, I have not purchased much brown furniture because I have inherited so much from my family that no one else wanted. Lucky me :) I think a piece in a room grounds the space and provides a warmth that painted furniture does not achieve.
Lamps - Lighting from lamps is far more inviting than overhead lighting. Though, that is not an original idea- I still believe it! I usually try to place lamps and floor lamps scattered in a room. Bonus points if they can be on a switch so others in your house do not complain over turning them each on and off..always a source of contention in my house.
Leopard print - I think a leopard print fabric or rug serves almost as a neutral. Since I often do not use solid neutral colors in my designs, I find myself gravitating to it a lot. It can provide a small, tight pattern that doesn’t fall flat.
