How did you get started in Interior Design? What is your background?
I’ve loved interior design for as long as I can remember—sketching room layouts as a kid, rearranging my bedroom, and soaking up inspiration from my mom and grandmothers, who created homes that felt warm, layered, and welcoming. Creativity ran in the family: my dad was a landscape designer, and my grandfather an artisan woodturner, so I grew up with a deep appreciation for craftsmanship and thoughtful detail.
Design has always felt second nature to me. I step into a room and instantly see what I want to happen in the space. While I studied elementary education in college and spent time teaching, my heart was always in design. After having my daughter eight years ago, I began helping friends with their homes—measuring for rugs, selecting fabrics, and reimagining layouts—and what started as a passion project quickly grew into launching my own business, H. Louderback Interiors. I feel so grateful for the clients who trust me with their homes—it’s truly an honor to create spaces that feel meaningful and special to them.

How would you describe your design aesthetic?
My design aesthetic is traditional at heart. I want the rooms I design to feel welcoming and layered—beautiful, but never stuffy. I love working with textiles and you will almost always find shades of blue and green woven throughout my projects. I’m drawn to timeless foundational pieces like furnishings, rugs, and window treatments, which I like to balance with fresh, whimsical, or slightly more modern touches—like a cool piece of art. You’ll often find wonderful antiques, thoughtful pillow combinations, and a joyful mix of color and pattern in our designs—elements that feel collected, personal, and that genuinely make our clients (and us) happy.

What do you love most about including original art in your designs?
Original art truly makes a space. As much as I love furnishings and fabrics, a room never feels complete without good art. Like a beloved antique, original art adds a quiet sense of permanence, helping a space feel collected rather than overly new or styled. Art brings character, depth, and a layer of soul to a space, making it feel personal and truly special.

Favorite thing about living in the south?
The people, without a doubt. I actually grew up in Ohio and moved down south for college. But growing up I was surrounded by a big extended family, where time was always made for grandparents, cousins, and long meals on my granny’s porch. When I moved to Tennessee for college, I was immediately met with that same sense of kindness and hospitality. In the South, people linger a little longer, strike up conversations more easily, and make you feel right at home.
My husband and I made our home in Knoxville and now raise our children here, and that sense of connection carries into my work. Getting to know my clients and their families, and helping them create spaces where memories are made, is incredibly meaningful to me. Designing homes that invite gathering, hosting, and togetherness is what truly brings me joy, and is at the heart of why I love what I do.
