Some key elements of a good photo are:
-The color of the animal's eye is visible - it's not all black due to poor lighting or yellow due to flash glare.
The animal is well lit, and ideally, directional light shines on one side of the face, while the other side is more in the shadow. This can be achieved by taking a photo beside a window or outside in the morning or late afternoon.
-The photo is clear and not blurry.
