We are so excited to officially welcome Emma Carr tomorrow! Emma joins us from Birmingham, Alabama. She graduated from Mississippi State University with a major in Fine Art and a concentration in graphic design. Emma grew up in a very artistic family and began selling paintings at the age of fourteen. An Emma Carr original holds the tension between realism & abstract interestingly. She creates a variety of different pieces, including abstracts, hummingbirds, landscapes, and flowers. She's constantly growing her style and finds joy in learning along the way. Her debut collection, Winged Wonders, is full of texture, color, & whimsy. Emma’s sweet demeanor radiates through this body of work and we know that y'all will fall in love with her just as we have! Get to know this kind soul before her work loads onto our walls by reading her responses to our new artist interview below. And be sure to set those alarms for tomorrow at 10am!

What is currently on your nightstand?

My nightstand currently has a candle, a reading light, my Owala water bottle, my Kindle, and the book I’m currently reading.

Who is your biggest influence as an artist and why?

I contribute much of my success with my art to my grandmother, who is a professional artist. I have memories as early as two years old, painting with her. I believe her patience, consistency, and talent were the launchpad into my own art career.

Tell us about your childhood. What is the most memorable moment as a young person?I basically grew up with a paintbrush in my hand. One of my favorite memories is from when I was little and my mom found me in my bedroom, grinning from ear to ear because I had covered the walls and chairs with my drawings! I guess I got a bit tired of using paper….

If you could only have one supply in your art studio, what would it be and why?

If I could only have one supply in my art studio, it would be a set of nice paints. They allow me to bring my ideas to life with vibrant colors. Without them, I wouldn’t be able to create!

What is your favorite room in your house? Describe it.

My favorite room in my house is definitely my living room/sunroom. After graduating college and getting my own space, I could finally decorate in a style I love. Over the past year, I've collected and inherited pieces that have brought the room to life. It's so cozy, and I spend most of my time in there!

What is your biggest score online?

I’m love a good Facebook Marketplace deal. I once found a beautiful vintage chair for my apartment for just $30, and it turned out to be worth hundreds online!

What is the benefit of buying art through a collective? What do you recommend for those that are new to buying original art?

Buying art from a collective is great because it opens up a world of new artists you might not find otherwise. You get to see a variety of amazing artwork daily and could even discover your next favorite artist!

If you have the entire day to spend in an art museum, which one and why?

My dream is to see Monet’s Water Lillies at The Musée de l'Orangerie. One day….

What is your favorite hotel and what makes it special?

My favorite hotel has to be the Place d'Armes in New Orleans. It’s one of my top cities to visit, and this hotel was perfect. Super close to everything, and had such a cozy vibe and a gorgeous courtyard!

If you were a lipstick color, would you be red, pink, or clear and why?Definitely red… I just love a good classic red lip!

I can never get on a plane without….

A good set of noise-canceling headphones and a good book are essential!! I’ve always been afraid of flying and only took my first flight in 2022. Now that I fly more often, I’ve found that noise-canceling headphones help block out the loud plane noises, and having a book is great for distraction.

How did you get into the world of art?

I have done art for as long as I can remember. My grandma’s a well-known watercolor artist, so I pretty much grew up with a paintbrush in hand. My dad was always getting me new art supplies and sketchbooks. I took every art class I could, and my family was always super supportive, and always encouraging me.

What do you do to relax?

To relax, I usually light a candle, fill up my water bottle, turn on my favorite comfort show or curl up on the couch with a cozy blanket!

When do you get the biggest surge of inspiration?

I get my biggest inspiration when I visit new places. If I’m ever in need of a creative boost, I’ll plan a trip or explore a new spot in my city.

Prediction for the Color of 2025?

I’ve been seeing a lot of artists using emerald green in their paintings lately, and I’ve been loving using “green gold” in my own work. It’d be amazing if one of these colors made it into the Color of the Year for 2025!

What is your idea of a date night?

I know it’s a bit cliché, but dinner and a movie is one of my favorite date nights. I love going to the theater with reclining seats and enjoying a movie with some good food!

Tell us about your favorite painting that you have created.

This is soooo hard! But if I had to choose, I’d go with my very first hummingbird painting from last summer. That painting was a turning point for my art career and played a significant role in where I am today!

One piece of advice for buying original art?

My best tip for buying original art is to go with what really speaks to you. Find something that you connect with and that makes you feel something! What matters most is how the piece makes YOU feel every time you see it.
