Ellen believes that we are the product of our surroundings. Her formative surroundings include three daughters, a husband, New York City and Houston, TX. The joys/challenges of parenting and pastoring alongside her husband in several churches delayed her self-expression in the form of painting until a mid-life awakening. It was then when she found her voice, canvas and acrylic paint. As a perfectionist, Ellen viewed a blank canvas with trepidation; but it also drew her magnetically. Slowly, the structure that formerly defined her life fell away with each additional layer of bold color applied in abstract gestures. Two years of study at The Art Students League of New York City, intensives in Florence and Los Angeles, and watercolor workshops with multiple artisans provided inspiring surroundings that refined her style and elevated training in art history and interior design into the work she produces today.
