What do you love most about the portrait business?
I adore all aspects of the portrait business and simply love working for the best portrait company on the planet, Portraits, Inc.. The staff is beyond supportive, and I love my fabulous clients. It's thrilling to help them capture a memory of their loved ones to cherish for a lifetime.
Working with the finest portrait artists has also been a joy and a pleasure. From identifying the artist, to the sitting, to working with the artist to finalize the portrait, and unveiling the final product to adoring parents... this is why I have adored these past 25 years!
Dream portrait project?
I once shared on Instagram that a certain artist was coming to town, then received an email that a friend’s daughter wished to work with that artist...thirty minutes later the contract was written! The artist has come, the sketch has been shared, and a masterpiece is in the works. It will be outstandingly beautiful!
What portraits do you have in your home? Where have you hung them and what do you love most about them?
Portraits, portraits and more portraits – I adore them. They hang all over my house and beach house. Some favorites include my husband painted by Jamie McMahan, my daughter Walker at age five, my daughter and myself by Ann Kenyon, a tryptic of my triplet sons, and my entire family walking down the beach by Isabelle Dayton. I love that they preserve the history of our family – timeless!!
What are the three most important factors to consider when choosing an artist to create a portrait?
- Style – Whether it be realistic or impressionistic and to what degree of each?
- Medium/Style/Setting of Portrait – Whether your medium would be oil, pastel, watercolor, conte, charcoal? Do you wish to paint your subject in a head and shoulders, 3/4 pose or full length? Would you prefer an interior pose or exterior setting?
- Price – If you are working within a particular budget, I would recommend choosing the artist you prefer and a smaller in size rather than switching artists for price sake.
