When asked to describe her style in four words, Emily Mangus lists Classic, Contemporary, Comfortable, and Chic... and we could not agree more! A beautiful blend of bright colors and soft hues, layering of textures, and incorporating antique family heirlooms with modern family functionality, Emily Mangus Interiors nails it.  And let us not forget about Emily’s gift of perfectly incorporating our favorite, original art, into every space as well. Emily is an allied member of the American Society of Interior Designers, and worked for nearly a decade at well-known design firms in Roanoke, VA before establishing Emily Mangus Interiors in 2015. Over the years, Emily’s work has caught the eye of publications across the region and as such EMI has been featured in Virginia Living’s Best of Virginia and more.

At EMI, interior design is not just a profession but an all-encompassing lifestyle.  Emily’s extensive professional toolkit makes a big impact on each space she designs, from taking measurements and creating from-scratch design plans, to researching every tiny detail and seeing each detail through to install day. Total client satisfaction is a top priority at EMI, where Emily and her staff offer versatility and flexibility to adapt their vision to each clients’ personal style and tastes.

How would you describe your design aesthetic?

At EMI we pride ourselves on cultivating a client’s style and not impressing our wants upon the design of the space. Instead, we listen and guide each client to make their space a reflection of their personality and lifestyle.

What do you love most about including original art in your designs?

Art completes a space. Period. No matter how many layers and fabulous custom pieces are in a room, it is not complete without art! Art brings out a client’s personality in a space and is often the jumping off point for a room.

What is your favorite room in your own home?

As a family with two young children, we have really embraced being at home together this year – playing games, movie night by the fire - just being home. For that reason, we are currently redoing our formal living room to make it less formal.  We opened up a doorway to create a more open floorplan, we are adding a Frame TV, some comfortable Highland House Cardi chairs with a game table and gas logs. We are excited to begin using this space daily!

What are your three "must haves" in order to create an inviting space?

Layering, proper lighting and art - all to scale!
