Clarence works in the “back house” as she and family call the little house in their backyard in which she has set up her studio. She lives and works in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Collage using watercolor, gouache and acrylic
Best known for her collage work, Clarence abstracts natural forms (predominately birds, butterflies, flowers and sea creatures) to create colorful and happy pieces of art. Clarence’s process starts with her drawing and painting the shapes; she then cuts each shape out individually with an Xacto knife before gluing them all down. A native of North Carolina, Clarence Deaton studied Art History at the University of North Carolina. Naturally creative, she has been drawing and painting for most of her life.
